The Philippine Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI) held its 1st Immunology Course, entitled Basic Immunologic Concepts and Clinical Medicine: An Integrated Approach, last February 6, 2015 at the Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan. It was attended by physicians, basic science and medical educators and other health professionals.
This immunology course is the brainchild of PSAAI past president Dr Florecita Padua, planned during the term of Dr. Jovilia Abong, immediate past president of PSAAI, and implemented under the term of the current president, Dr. Maria Carmela A. Kasala.
With Over-all Course Director Dr Ruby Foronda welcoming the delegates, the course took off with the lecture of Dr. Florecita Padua on the fundamental immunologic concepts and mechanisms centering on innate and specific immunity. This was followed by topics on Immunology of Infectious Diseases (Dr. Regina D. Capulong), Tumor Immunology (Dr. Rommel M. Lobo), Allergic Diseases (Dr. Shirley K. Buizon), Autoimmune Diseases (Dr. Jenifer O. Agustin), and Organ Transplantation (Dr. Jeannette A. Borgonia). The extensive lectures provided a review of immunology and, at the same time, updates on the latest on each topic.
The course ended with a posttest on the different modules and a raffle for the lucky participants. This early, the delegates are already looking forward to the next immunology course.
